If you need a snow rated tire that’s also suitable for year round use, this isn’t a bad idea.

A fleet that buys RAV4’s? What’s next, Honda rentals?

The ways of accounting/procurement are not for mere mortals to perceive . That’s why the Navy vans in Diego Garcia, an equatorial atoll, had snow tires when I was there.

They see some dirt now and then.. but yeah the majority is going to be roaring down the highway.. lol.

I think they are actually trying to avoid running winters.

like vacali said, snowflake tires are mandatory there and it's probably the cheapest snowflake tire they could get in that size

That’s not true though, the T/A KO2 is quite pricey compared to the plethora of All Weather Tires on the market now. Goodyear and Firestone would be the cheapest options, based on my experience.

EDIT: And, being a BC Resident, I know for a fact that Snowflake/Winter rated tires are not mandatory, it’s either Snowflake or  M+S rated all season tires for the few highways that require it.

If you read the actual website, it states M+S OR Mountain Snowflake, it’s is not mandatory Mountain Snowflake. Only Quebec has that law in effect during the winter season.

And yes, it’s a lot of northern roads, but the majority of the population resides in the GVRD.

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/transportation/driving-and-cycling/traveller-information/seasonal/winter-driving/about-winter-tires

A legal winter tire (on a standard passenger vehicle or a four-wheel/all-wheel vehicle) MUST have at least 3.5 mm of tread depth.

A winter tire must be labelled with either of the following:

The letters “M” and “S”, the minimum legal requirement (mud + snow/all season tires)

The 3-peaked mountain/snowflake symbol (some manufacturers label with both the mountain snowflake and the M+S symbol)

If you spend any time on the Coq you will see a lot of M+S drivers.. they are easy to spot;

I’ m in full agreement, I’ve driven the Coq every year for the past 20 plus years. I’m just saying that BC winters are few and far between with actual winter. You might get one weekend of snow and some black ice on some early mornings, but it’s usually manageable with just an all weather unless you’re venturing to a ski hill or whistler or beyond.

The bigger problem isn’t that people have bad tires per see (sometimes that’s the case) but it’s that they don’t know how to drive for the conditions.
